To strengthen the national consciousness of children and teenagers, enhance their cultural confidence, and deepen their understanding of the national spirit of the 56 ethnic groups of China in pursuit of peace, harmony and amity, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) will launch two Chinese nation promotional activities for the youth in April as part of the Patriotic Sentiment series. The activities include the “2026 ‘Chinese Dream‧Ethnic Sentiment’ Children’s Creative Colouring Competition”, as well as the “Discovering the Northeast Ethnic Groups” touring exhibition and the “Cultural Exploration of 56 Ethnic Groups” thematic seminar for primary and secondary schools. Schools are welcome to participate in the activities.
“Chinese Dream‧Ethnic Sentiment” Children’s Creative Colouring Competition
Through drawing and colouring, children are encouraged to use colours instead of words to demonstrate the unity in diversity of the Chinese nation and the rich cultural characteristics of the ethnic groups. All primary school students in Macao are eligible for participation. The competition is divided into junior primary group (Primary 1 to 3) and senior primary group (Primary 4 to 6). There are two types of colouring sheets for the competition, featuring not only the images of Chinese figures but also the iconic buildings of Macao, traditional motifs and other design elements, with the aim of conveying to children the close ties between the motherland and Macao, as well as the harmony without uniformity in traditional Chinese culture.
Participants have to colour the colouring sheets and they can unleash their creativity in the reserved space to enrich the content of the original image, expressing their love for the country and the wonderful hope for the great unity of the Chinese nation. There will be one first prize, one second prize, one third prize, three merit awards and ten selected awards for each of the two groups. In addition to receiving shopping vouchers, book vouchers and trophies, the winners will be awarded a puzzle of their winning works, and the schools that organise students to participate in the competition will receive a commemorative plaque. Furthermore, the “Learn More about the Greater Bay Area” one-day tour will be added this year. Award-winning students and their parents will be led to visit the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin to understand the lives and development opportunities of Macao residents in the Cooperation Zone and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, thereby strengthening their sense of pride and identity as members of the Chinese nation through learning about the great achievements of the motherland. In addition, the winning works will be arranged for public display in the Civic Education Resource Centre, the activity centres and other locations.
The colouring sheets of the competition can be obtained from the Civic Education Resource Centre, public services centres and their stations under IAM. After completion, the works can be submitted to the mentioned locations along with the registration form on the back side with completed personal information. The deadline for submission of works is until 29 May. Schools, associations and individuals are welcome to register for participation.
“Discovering the Northeast Ethnic Groups” touring exhibition
The “Discovering the Northeast Ethnic Groups” touring exhibition targets at primary and secondary schools. In addition to introduction of the Sculpture Park of the Chinese Ethnics, it showcases the cultural features of the clothing, food, housing and transport of the seven ethnic groups in the Northeast region, namely the Mongolian, Manchu, Hezhe, Oroqen, Ewenki, Daur and Korean. The exhibition will also feature quiz games, check-in installations and display of authentic ethnic items, so that visitors can gain an intuitive understanding of the lives and appearances of the ethnic groups in the Northeast region of the country through the images, objects and games, while appreciating the characteristics and the spirit of great unity of the Chinese nation. The exhibition panels will be displayed at schools participating in the touring exhibition for two weeks. Each participant who submits the quiz game paper and answers all the questions correctly will receive a small gift. In addition, primary and secondary schools are welcome to join the “Cultural Exploration of 56 Ethnic Groups” thematic seminar. The activity will be carried out in the participating schools and the characteristics of the seven mentioned ethnic groups will be introduced in a fun and interactive manner to align with the theme of the exhibition. Both the exhibition and seminar will be held from April to December and arrangements will be made according to the application dates of the schools. Schools are welcome to register.
