Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 126 hotel establishments offered accommodation services to the public in February 2023, an increase of 6 year-on-year. Besides, the total number of available guest rooms rose by 0.3% to 39,000. The average occupancy rate of guest rooms in February went up by 27.5 percentage points year-on-year to 76.1%; the rates for 2-star and 3-star hotels both exceeded 80%, representing respective growth of 52.6 percentage points and 31.0 percentage points.
The number of guests of hotel establishments in February soared by 78.5% year-on-year to 883,000; the number of guests from mainland China (643,000), Hong Kong (162,000) and Taiwan (11,000) hiked by 62.2%, 806.4% and 185.0% respectively, whereas local guests (45,000) fell by 34.3%. Meanwhile, the average length of stay of guests shortened by 0.2 night year-on-year to 1.6 nights.
In the first two months of 2023, the average occupancy rate of guest rooms of hotel establishments went up by 27.5 percentage points year-on-year to 73.6%. The number of guests grew by 71.7% year-on-year to 1,730,000, while their average length of stay shortened by 0.2 night to 1.7 nights.
With the resumption of group tours from mainland China to Macao, number of visitors arriving on package tours totalled 17,000 in February; meanwhile, a total of 19,000 Macao residents purchased outbound services through travel agencies, an uplift of 423.4% year-on-year. In the first two months of 2023, number of Macao residents purchasing outbound services through travel agencies expanded by 294.3% year-on-year to 31,000.
