The SAR government has given the green light to a satellite TV production center project which involves an initial investment of 200 million patacas, the Secretary for Transport and Public Works, Ao Man Long revealed on January 10.
The secretary added that the center which was invested by a Hong Kong-based consortium located in the Cotai (Coloane-Taipa) City and the construction would start after the Lunar New Year.
According to Mr. Ao, the project will be proceeded in two phases. The initial investment also included 23 million patacas premium which was paid for the land concession.
Mr. Ao further explained that the evaluation of the premium was based on the legislation, as well as the project's benefit to Macau's economy.
He stated that the approval of the project was aimed at attracting foreign investment and developing new industries which would be suitable for Macau.
He believed that the project would be able to create job opportunities and to facilitate the diversification of local economy.
Meanwhile, Mr. Ao said it would be definitely beneficial to Macau's tourism industry in the future that tourists would be guided to visit the centre.
"The investment by the Hong Kong-based consortium has shown the investment environment of Macau is improving", Mr. Ao pointed out, adding that the SAR government would continue to make its great efforts.
The first phase of the satellite TV production center project covers a total land area of 100 thousand square meters, including nine production studios, administrative buildings, outdoor studios, car parks, etc.
The construction of the project in the first year will provide 350 job opportunities. The first phase project will be completed within two years. 800 job opportunities will be created when the centre operates in 2002. The second stage of the project will occupy a total land area of 50 thousand square meters.
