  • There is a total of 61 pillar boxes installed across the city, mainly on public roads for the convenience of people wishing to use Macao’s public postal service.

  • Pillar boxes are usually located either on main roads, traffic intersections or in the most densely-populated areas.

  • Pillar boxes in Macao are bright-red in colour.

  • Each posting box lists the daily pickup time by Macao Post staff.

  • The postal box located in Casa Garden is cylindrical – a design common among boxes dating from the time of the Portuguese administration.

  • In addition to providing pillar boxes, Macao’s postal service also has two staffed, street-side, kiosks – located respectively near the Ruins of St Paul’s and in Rua da Barca – where the public can buy stamps and send mail.

  • There is also an aggregate of 20 stamp vending machines located either in post offices, museums or public streets.

  • Coins in the following denominations are accepted by the stamp vending machines: 50 cents; 1 pataca; 2 patacas; 5 patacas; and 10 patacas. Some machines accept electronic payment.

  • Some automated kiosks have franking machines that can be used to stamp surface or air mail prior to it being posted.

  • Email and text messages via mobile phones are quick and convenient. But nothing can beat the excitement of opening an envelope and receiving a handwritten letter. Traditional mail services are still a great way to connect loved ones.
