The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) advanced the second phase construction works of the South Shore Waterfront Green Promenade in three zones in an orderly manner according to the plan. Following the opening of Zone 1 in November last year, Zone 2, which is situated between Macau Tower and Portas do Entendimento, is also open for public use from today (23 April) onwards.

Zone 2 of the second phase of the South Shore Waterfront Green Promenade is a strip of land with an area of about 17,000 square metres located on the waterfront between Macau Tower and Portas do Entendimento. It is a leisure activity space long and narrow in shape. Multiple layers of plants, together with large trees and flowering plants, are planted along the way for ornamental purposes. The branches and leaves of these plants swaying in the wind enrich the scenery and provide the public with a leisurely view of the waterfront. The main facilities of this zone are a waterfront trail and a cycle track of over 600 metres in length, which are separated and beautified by green belts. Golden shower trees, an ornamental flowering tree species, are planted on both sides along the cycle track. When their flowers bloom, strings of gold flowers hang from the branches, creating an immersive cascade of golden blossoms. Garlic vines, with lilac blossoms, are planted on pergolas to create a romantic and dreamy atmosphere. Indian Putat trees, an evergreen tree species with excellent shade properties, are planted in the leisure area, offering an ornamental floral landscape and shade to the public.

In the current stage, the public can bring their own bicycles to try out the mentioned facilities. Upon the completion of the whole South Shore Waterfront Green Promenade project, IAM will further assess the addition of a bicycle rental service along the track. In addition, the zone open at this time also includes leisurely waterfront steps and a leisure area for the public to sit and relax, appreciate the scenery of the coast and Sai Van Bridge. A fishing platform is also set up near the approach viaduct of Sai Van Bridge, on which distinctive dragon boat seats are installed for decoration. The existing basketball court, badminton court and fitness facilities are kept, and tables for playing chess and green elements are added to provide the public with a comfortable and leisurely recreational play environment where they can carry out both dynamic and static activities.

Currently, the public can enter Zone 2 of the second phase of the South Shore Waterfront Green Promenade via Portas do Entendimento and the footbridge in Avenida Panorâmica do Lago Sai Van. They can also enter the zone via the zebra crossing after they parked their vehicles in the parking area under Sai Van Bridge.

The construction works of the second phase of the South Shore Waterfront Green Promenade are divided into three zones, covering the area from Ponte Governador Nobre de Carvalho to Portas do Entendimentowith a total construction area of about 60,000 square metres. Zone 1 and Zone 2 are open to the public as planned, and the construction works of Zone 3 commenced late last year. All the construction works of the second phase of the South Shore Waterfront Green Promenadeare expected to be completed in the first half of 2027. The whole project is designed with parent-child play, leisure and recreation, and waterfront scenery as the three main concepts of the functional space, creating a green promenade on the south shore of the Macao Peninsula to offer a multi-functional waterfront recreational and leisure venue for the public and improve the city’s coastal landscape.
