Macao, Cambodia’s Siem Reap to boost mutually beneficial cooperation

Macao and Siem Reap Province in Cambodia have signed a memorandum of understanding to establish friendly relations and extend cooperation on mutual interests covering a number of fields.

The Memorandum of Understanding between Siem Reap Province of the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Macao Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China on the Establishment of Friendship Relation was signed today during a ceremony held at Government Headquarters in Macao.

The document was signed by the Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, and the Governor of Siem Reap Province, Mr Khim Bunsong.

The Memorandum covers a number of potential areas for bilateral cooperation that involve interests complementary to the two places. They include: tourism; cultural affairs; trade; education; science and technology; environmental protection; and conservation of cultural heritage.

Under the Memorandum, the two sides will continue to exchange and share experiences regarding the development of a number of sectors, in order to lay a good foundation for mutual cooperation. The Memorandum also covers exchange of information relating to tourism, investment and other issues.

The Macao-Siem Reap Memorandum adheres to the principles outlined in the Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

The Commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Macao SAR, Mr Ye Dabo witnessed the signing ceremony for the document.

Macao Government officials attending the signing ceremony included: principal officials; members of the Executive Council; and members of the Working Committee for the Development of the “Belt and Road” Initiative.

Cambodian officials present – in addition to the Governor of Siem Reap Province – included Deputy Governor of Siem Reap Province, Mr Ngan Phirun, and other members of a delegation visiting Macao.
