The Health Bureau announced that a 38 year old saleslady who suffered from pneumonia was admitted to the isolation care unit for further treatment and observation this evening (20 April).

According to the press release from the Health Bureau, the patient went to the emergency room of the Conde S. Januario Hospital on 16 April when she started to run a fever, since X-ray images did not show signs of pneumonia, the patient was advised to rest at home and isolate herself from others and to consult doctors if symptoms continued.

On 19 April, the patient stated to have coughs and the fever continued, she went to the Kiang Wu Hospital for consultation but symptoms were not relieved after Medication.

On 20 April, she once again consulted the Kiang Wu Hospital. Since X-ray images of her lungs revealed signs of pneumonia while level of white blood cells did not rise, which suggested the possibility of SARS, the patient was sent to the Conde S. Januario Hospital for further diagnosis.

The Health Bureau decided to isolate the patient since her symptoms were similar to that of SARS although she had not traveled out of Macao recently and had not contact any SARS patient. She would be observed and treated in the isolation care unit while samples of her sputum and excrements were sent to Hong Kong to be test for the presence of corona virus, of which results would be available in two days.

The Patient was in fair condition, according to the press release.
