Deputy Director of Health Bureau, Kun Sai Hoi and two doctors from the Center of Disease Control and Prevention visited the Health Department of Guangdong Province and the Guangdong Center of Disease Control and Prevention, aiming at strengthening communication and to learn from Guangdong’s experience in treating SARS patients.

According to a press release from the Health Bureau today (19 April), the visit was under the designation of Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Chui Sai On, the delegation arrived at Guangdong on 17 April, and had met with the Director of the Health Department of Guangdong Province, Yau Zhibin and experts involved in the study of SARS and treatment of sufferer.

The Health Department of Guangdong Province pointed out that well ventilated wards was the key for treating SARS while Endotracheal Intubations were avoided to minimize the possible complications, according to the press release.

SARS sufferers in Guangdong who were given treatment that included traditional Chinese Medicines do recovered more rapidly, as the press release mentioned, and the Health Bureau would take that as reference.

The press release also indicated that the Health Department of Guangdong Province had released guidelines to Hospital and other public entities and had taken strict preventive measures, thus the situation was now under control.

According to the press release, the Health Department of Guangdong Province and the Macao SAR Health Bureau had always maintained smooth communication, and the Health Department of Guangdong Province would provide support if Macao was in need.
