Celebrations scheduled to commemorate National Day in the SAR

Firework displays, sports activities and other celebrations are scheduled for 1 October to rouse a festive mood on National Day in the SAR.

The celebrations will start with a flag raising ceremony in the Lotus Park at 8:00 in the morning. The ceremony will be presided over by the Chief Executive Edmund Ho. Vice President of CPPCC, Ma Man Kei, Vice Director of the Central Government Liaison Office in Macau, Li Yongwu, Commissioner of the Macau SAR Commission of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC, Yuan Tao, Commanding Officer of the Macau PLA Garrison, Liu Yuejun, President of the Legislative Assembly, Susana Chou, President of the Court of Final Appeal, Sam Hou Fai, and other honourable guests will attend the ceremony which will be broadcast live on TDM.

The National Day Marathon will be held right after the flag raising ceremony. Over 5,000 candidates will participate in the three kilometer run starting in Lotus Park.

The official reception will be held in the afternoon, during which the Chief Executive will deliver his speech.

The celebrations will continue in the evening with the final display of the 13th Macau International Fireworks Festival starting at 9:00 p.m. Two fireworks manufacturers from China and Switzerland will be competing for the trophy. Over 1000 seats were prepared this year near the Garden of Arts (opposite the Hotel Lisboa) so that the public may view the fireworks. Food stalls will also be set up to provide free drinks and snacks.
