Jointly advised by the Nansha District Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Guangzhou Municipality, the College of Veterinary Medicine of South China Agricultural University, the Guangdong Association of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, and the Council of Veterinary Medicine Professionals (CPMV) of Macao Special Administrative Region, and co-organised by Guangzhou Veterinary Association and the Pet Veterinary Association of Foshan, the “Third Greater Bay Area Conference for Small Animal Veterinarians” was recently held successfully in Nansha District, Guangzhou. Representatives of the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) and CPMV attended the opening ceremony of the conference at invitation to celebrate the event with more than 6,000 veterinary professionals from inside China including the Greater Bay Area and from overseas.
Promoting collaboration in Greater Bay Area and building professional development platform
The conference this year, which took place at Nansha International Convention & Exhibition Center in Guangzhou from 25 to 27 March, centred on the theme “Greater Bay Area Collaboration．Openness and Cooperation．Joint Industrial Development”, gathering a number of academicians, experts, scholars, research and development personnel of pharmaceutical enterprises, and clinical veterinary professionals to discuss the shared development blueprint of the veterinary sector in the Greater Bay Area. This year, with technological innovation as the main driving force for the sector’s high-quality development, the conference strived to build a communication platform for basic research and clinical application and promote technology breakthrough and industry upgrading. The event included multi-disciplinary themed forums and seminars of clinical case studies, covering traditional Chinese veterinary medicine, feline medicine, surgery, anesthesiology, ophthalmology, dentistry, neurology, dermatology, oncology, radiology, laboratory medicine and other fields. The content was closely related to clinical practice and advanced technologies, attracting more than 6,000 participants in across all three days and fully showcasing the professional dynamic and collaboration potential of the veterinary clinical care sector in the Greater Bay Area.
Continuous promotion of professional development by learning experience from Greater Bay Area
Wu Sau Fong, Chairman of CPMV of Macao, pointed out during her speech at the event that the conference this year not only promoted the technological exchange and cooperation in the veterinary sector in the Greater Bay Area, but also enlightened and inspired Macao in the aspects of talent development, technological innovation and establishment of industrial standards. As one of the advisory bodies of the conference, CPMV actively sought to set free participation quotas for Macao veterinary practitioners, assist members of the sector in connecting with resources in the Greater Bay Area, and expand channels for continuous professional development, so as to further enhance the professional service level and overall competitiveness of the sector in Macao.
In addition to continuously promoting the high-quality development of the veterinary sector in Macao, CPMV has also focused on publicising the “Code of Professional Ethics of Veterinary Surgeons” in recent years to strengthen the sector’s awareness of adhering to professional obligations. Through supervising the practice and disciplinary situations of registered veterinary surgeons in Macao and conducting rigorous follow-ups on public opinions and cases in accordance with the law, CPMV ensures transparent, legal and compliant operation of the sector. At the same time, CPMV is steadily advancing the certification of veterinary professional accreditation, with over 150 veterinary professional accreditation certificates issued to date, bringing new momentum into the sustainable development of the sector and jointly safeguarding the health of animals.
