Macau celebrates the “World Tourism Day”

To celebrate the “World Tourism Day” today (September 27), a series of activities are held by the Macau Government Tourist Office, including the “Macau Welcomes You in Summer” Mega Lucky Draw. The lucky winner of the first prize is from Hong Kong, Fung Shun Chau. She is entitled to a S350L Mercedes Benz that worths MOP$1,000,000.

Director of the Macau Government Tourist Office, Eng. João Manuel Costa Antunes welcomed and given out souvenir to Ms. Lam, a lucky tourist from Hong Kong at the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal in the morning. Ms. Lam and her colleagues came to Macau for business. She visited Macau for several times and expressed that Macau has given her a very good impression. On the other hand, Deputy Director of the Macau Government Tourist Office, Ms. Helena Fernandes and Mr. Manuel Pires also presented sourvenirs to the lucky tourists at the Macau International Airport and Border Gate Checkpoint respectively.

Traditional Tray Race was held at Sai Van Lake Square in front of the Macau Tower in the afternoon on the World Tourism Day , Pedicab and Harley Davidson Parade as well as Mexican singing and dancing performances brighten up the afternoon.

World Tourism Organization called up their third session in Spain (September 1979), and the General Assembly has decided to commemorate September 27 as “World Tourism Day” each year. It was then commenced on 1980 and this is the 24th year.

The main purpose of World Tourism Day is to foster awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic values. Each year, World Tourism Organization selects a different theme for “World Tourism Day”.

The theme of the 2003 World Tourism Day is “Tourism: A Driving Force for Poverty Alleviation, Job creation and Social Harmony.” The host country for this year is Algeria, official celebrations were held on 2003 September 27, “World Tourism Day”, and many other countries and regions also carried out activities to celebrate the day.
