The Macao Special Administrative Region today (16 Nov) signed the Agreement with the Kingdom of Thailand on Mutual Exemption of Visa Requirements.
The Secretary for Public Administration and Justice, Florinda Chan and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, Dr.Surakiart Sathirathai signed the agreement on behalf of the two governments at the Government Headquarter.
In accordance to the Agreement which would be effective 60 days after the signing, Macao SAR Passport holders may enter Thailand visa free and stay up to 30 days.
Thailand is one of most popular destination for local residents and the agreement would be good news for those people who plan to visit Thailand during Lunar New Year holidays said Ms. Chan after the signing ceremony.
She also believed that the Agreement would further strengthen Thailand and Macao in the aspects of tourism, culture and trading.
Dr.Surakiart Sathirathai said that the Agreement enables Macao to have closer ties with South East Asia countries through the relationship with Thailand while and to act as a doorway to the Pearl River Delta for Thai investment and exports.
The two governments expected that mutual exemption of visa requirements would further promote bilateral ties of business, trade and tourism. The Kingdom of Thailand is the 40th country granting visa free access to the Macao SAR passport holders. Macao SAR had extended visa requirement for Thai passport holders since its establishment.
