The now-disused Iec Long Firecracker Factory is in the centre of Taipa Village. Renovation of the site has been scheduled to start by mid-2022.

The Iec Long Firecracker Factory site covers more than 20,000 square metres of state-owned land. The site is the largest firecracker factory in Macao, and the most representative of the local industry.

The firecracker factory had lain abandoned for years, until the Cultural Affairs Bureau took responsibility for it in 2020. Preliminary cleaning and groundwork have been completed, and steps toward partial opening of the site to the public are in progress.

The revitalisation plan for the site of the former Iec Long Firecracker Factory involves preserving the site’s buildings, layout, and surrounding natural environment.

The site retains in full the layout and surroundings typical of firecracker production in days gone by. Despite the buildings’ obvious disrepair, they represent collectively a precious example of the industrial history of Macao from the recent past.

The site of the former Iec Long Firecracker Factory is to open partially to the public during 2022. There will be a walkway for visitors around the entire site. In addition, three of the adjacent buildings will be redeveloped to offer exhibitions and workshops, and serve other functions.

A long-term development plan is to turn the site of the former Iec Long Firecracker Factory into a leisure-activity park with a firecracker manufacturing theme.
