The Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) Government has decided to donate, via the Macao Foundation, 30 million renminbi to the Tibet Autonomous Region, in order to support local rescue and recovery efforts following a mudslide disaster that affected Gyirong County, Xigaze City, Tibet Autonomous Region.

The Chief Executive, Sam Hou Fai, expressed deep concern for the people of Gyirong County affected by the recent mudslide. The disaster occurred on the Nepalese side of the border and resulted in significant casualties, with a number of people still missing.

Mr Sam extended his condolences to the Secretary of the Tibet Autonomous Regional Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Mr Wang Junzheng, expressing his profound sorrow over the loss of life and offering his deepest sympathies to the bereaved families and affected residents.

In a spirit of solidarity and close kinship, and guided by the principle that assistance should come from all quarters when one region faces hardship, the MSAR Government will – in addition to the financial donation – do its utmost to provide medical rescue teams and any other support required by the disaster-stricken area, actively assisting with recovery efforts.

The MSAR Government also appeals to all sectors of the Macao community to take active steps to assist Gyirong County, in Tibet, through various means, helping with the post-disaster recovery and supporting affected residents in returning to their normal lives as soon as possible.
