Detailed results of gross domestic product for the first half of 2026

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the economy of the Macao Special Administrative Region exhibited steady growth in the first half of 2026, driven by the continued expansion in exports of services resulting from a year-on-year increase in visitor arrivals. The revised figure for Gross Domestic Product (GDP) stood at MOP209.91 billion in the first half of 2026, up by 3.7% year-on-year in real terms. The overall economic output corresponded to 89.1% of the total in the same period of 2019.

Analysed by major component, total exports of services increased by 7.3% year-on-year in the first half year, fuelled by a 9.0% rise in visitor arrivals; exports of other tourism services and gaming services recorded respective growth of 10.8% and 5.5%. With respect to merchandise trade, exports and imports of goods rose by 14.8% and 9.5% year-on-year respectively in the first half year.

As regards domestic demand, private consumption expenditure grew by 2.7% year-on-year in the first half year, while government final consumption expenditure and gross fixed capital formation reduced by 0.2% and 9.3% respectively.

For the second quarter of 2026, the revised figure for GDP expanded by 0.3% year-on-year in real terms to MOP102.35 billion. The overall economic output returned to 87.9% of the total in the same period of 2019. Analysed by major component, exports of services, private consumption expenditure, government final consumption expenditure and gross fixed capital formation grew by 1.6%, 2.1%, 2.1% and 4.0% year-on-year respectively, while net external demand decreased by 2.5% due to an increase in imports of goods (+13.5%). Moreover, the implicit deflator of GDP, which measures the overall changes in prices, rose by 2.9% year-on-year to 101.8.
