The latest issue no.327 Consumer Report published by the Consumer Council covers a test report on the routers available in Macao and Shenzhen, and a feature on the development and achievement of cross-border cooperation between the Council and consumer organizations in the Mainland, together with a case sample of a local citizen getting refund in a short period of time from his dispute with an e-commerce business in the Mainland.
Practical data for consumers to choose wisely
The test report on routers from Macao and Shenzhen includes 10 router samples collected from e-commerce platforms in Shenzhen and retail shops in Macao. The test, which includes the testing of function, safety of information, safety of electrical appliance and electromagnetic compatibility, is conducted according to the national standard and professional specifications based on the previous comments provided by consumers, and all samples are reviewed and compared based on the test result.
All samples tested vary in function and information safety, the tested throughput of a certain sample differs for about 70 to 80 percent from the claimed value of wireless transmission speed of the manufacturer; for information safety, significant differences are shown in the testing of “password authentication” input.
For evaluation of heat during operation of electrical appliance, all samples pass the safety requirement of the national standard, however, 1 sample collected from Shenzhen fails the test of electromagnetic compatibility where radiation disturbance of router is reflected.
Prices are irrelevant to test scores
The test report consolidates performances of the 10 routers in all four aspects, two samples with “5 star” scores are sold at almost $1600 and $200 respectively, showing that retail prices are irrelevant to the quality of products.
Product comparison report enables consumers to grasp the actual performance of different kinds of products, consumers are suggested to refer to the product comparison report to make smarter choice when making consumption.
The testing report on 10 routers and a guide to making purchase are included in the latest Consumer Report, a video clip of the testing highlights is also accessible by scanning the QR code available in the magazine.
