The “Story of Cannon-Making – Children Experience Exhibition”, organised by the Macao Museum, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will be inaugurated on Friday, 24^th March, at 6pm, in the lobby of the Macao Museum, and will be open to the public from 25^th March to 20^th August, on the 3^rd floor of the Macao Museum. In preparation for the opening of the exhibition, admittance will be allowed until 4pm on 24^th March.

The “Story of Cannon-Making – Children Experience Exhibition”, co-organised by the City University of Macau, is the first exhibition themed around children’s experience at the Macao Museum. The process of experiencing various games in the exhibition aims to inspire and encourage children to learn about the history of Macao, and shape the Museum as another important learning place for children.

The exhibition includes six distinctive educational game areas, namely “Thumbing through Interesting History”, “Seeking Fortresses”, “Making Cannonballs”, “Experiencing the Sensation in the Battlefield”, “Exploring the Cannon-making Process” and “Fortress Sensation in the Present and in the Past”. Accompanied by colourful decorations for creating fun and attractiveness, the exhibition provides an interesting learning environment for children aged from 3 to 8.

In order to allow children to get familiar with the theme of this exhibition and inspire and encourage them to learn about the history of Macao, the organiser hosts one family workshop per month during the exhibition period, from March to July; each family workshop comprises two sessions. In this one-hour activity, children can experience the “making” of cannons through the senses of sight and touch, learning the development of the cannon industry in the past, expanding multi-dimensional thinking and strengthening the relationship between parents and children as well as learning about the history of Macao with their parents. Each session is limited with a maximum of 12 families; each group comprises two family members, including one child aged between four and eight and one parent. In addition, during some festivals and activities in the exhibition period, themed souvenirs will be distributed to participants in the exhibition activities, subject to availability.

The Macao Museum is open daily from 10am to 6pm (no admission after 5:30pm; closed on Mondays). Admission is free for holders of Macao Resident Identity Card.
