The Cultural Affairs Bureau has since 2013 carried out restoration and maintenance works on five buildings located at Nossa Senhora Village in Ka Ho. The work includes renovation of the buildings’ structure, walls, doors and windows.

Maintenance is done applying the principle 'restore the old to its old form’; i.e. original walls, doors and corridors are retained, while other portions are restored in a form as close as possible to the original.

With their fresh paintwork, the five buildings look like new after renovation.

The five buildings – to which the public will also have access – are now poised to become a centre for youth education and training.

Renovation of this structure (pictured), previously used as a chapel, will be phased. It is scheduled to become an activity centre.

Nossa Senhora Village was once a leper colony with an associated chapel. The buildings were established around the year 1885. The architecture of the complex has a uniform and homogenous style.

Today, Nossa Senhora Village attracts many visitors due to its historic past, air of mystery, and the beauty of its rural setting.

The village’s current place of worship, the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows, has a unique shape. Its angular structure resembles a huge tent.

The Church is dedicated to the Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary. A simple structure acts as belfry atop the bell tower on the eastern side of the building. The church – in its sparing design – is meant to represent the potency of charity and love working together.
