CP Info: Warm Reminder: Be Prepared Together to Cope with Potential Power Suspension
Civil Protection Newsflash: During the striking of Super Typhoon Ragasa, severe flooding may occur. To prevent significant impact or even permanent damage to electrical facilities in low-lying areas, and to ensure public safety, CEM might implement power suspension in low-lying areas. This measure can effectively accelerate power restoration after the water recedes. To get through this safely, residents are advised to prepare in advance for peace of mind.Prepare Emergency Lighting• Flashlights and Spare Batteries: Place flashlights in easily accessible locations at home (e.g., bedside tables, living room drawers), and ensure you have sufficient spare batteries. Avoid using candles to reduce the risk of fire.• Emergency Lights: Consider using rechargeable LED emergency lights or camping lanterns, as they provide sufficient and safe lighting.Maintain Communication• Fully charge your mobile phones, tablets, and laptops in advance, and have fully charged power banks ready. This ensures you can stay connected and receive the latest updates during a power outage.Manage Electrical Appliances Properly• Pre-chill Your Refrigerator: When informed of a potential power suspension, set your refrigerator to a colder temperature so that food can stay cold longer. During the outage, minimize opening the refrigerator door.• Turn Off Appliances: To protect your appliances and avoid overloading the system when power is restored, unplug sensitive appliances (e.g., computers, TVs, air conditioners) after the power goes out. Keep one light turned on so you’ll know when power is restored.Care for Family and Neighbors• Communicate with Family Members: Explain the situation to elderly family members and children in advance so they are mentally prepared, reducing their anxiety. Make sure they know where items like flashlights are located.• Neighborly Assistance: Check in on elderly neighbors living alone or others who may need help to see if they require assistance.CEM will closely monitor the situation in each area and release the latest power updates via CEM’s Facebook page and WeChat.
