Chief Executive calls visit to Inner Mongolia "fruitful"

Chief Executive Edmund Ho said that the SAR Government would study the feasibility of establishing a trade point on the China-Russia border and would work closely with Guangdong province to discuss the establishment of the bond zone between Macao and Zhuhai.

The Chief Executive today (10 August) described the visit to Inner Mongolia as "fruitful", saying that it enriched the local entrepreneurs' understanding of future business opportunities in Western China.

Mr. Ho reaffirmed his desire to study the China-Russia border trade zone in order to establish the bond zone between Macao and Zhuhai.

The Chief Executive emphasized that the bond zone would be set up in accordance with the needs of Macao, adding that the MSAR Government would work closely with Guangdong province and would report to the Central Government.

For the location of the bond zone, Mr. Ho. said that Hengqin would be considered. He pointed out that an in-depth study had to be conducted in order to find a suitable location that would enhance economic development in the region.

The media asked whether the SAR Government would set up a trade point in the China-Russia border trade zone in Manzhouli City. Mr. Ho answered that key departments were studying the issue and would examine Singapore¡¦s trade point in Manzhouli as a reference.

Mr. Ho said that the SAR Government would assess the market and would create a policy that would aid local entrepreneurs.

The delegation completed their visit to the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and returned to Macao on 10 August.
