  • The first Macao Integrated Tourism and Leisure Enterprises Vocational Skills Competition provided a platform for employees from the city’s six gaming concessionaires and sub-concessionaires to showcase their professionalism and to improve their occupational skills.

  • The six gaming operators had teams taking part in the event’s three contests, namely for table game dealer skills, housekeeping skills, and cooking skills.

  • In the table game dealer skills contest, participants were tested on chip management and bet handling as well as card dealing. The contest required not only personal endeavour but also a spirit of cooperation within each competing team.

  • For the housekeeping skills contest, each three-member team was given tasks – grouped under particular themes –related to hotel room arrangement and decoration. The teams had to complete the tasks within a specific amount of time.

  • Here are other examples of the tasks each three-member team in the housekeeping skills contest must complete as they work against the clock.

  • Further samples of the tasks each three-member team in the housekeeping skills contest had to complete as they laboured against a deadline.

  • Themes for the room decoration and arrangement tests – as well as what kinds of ornaments should be placed in the rooms – were decided by drawing lots while the contestants were on site.

  • Each five-member team taking part in the cooking skills contest was requested to prepare an appetiser, a main and a dessert, using a box of ingredients received at the start of the competition. Participants were required to display creativity in their work in order to impress a panel of judges.

  • Each five-member team in the cooking skills contest had to prepare an appetiser, a main and a dessert, using the ingredients provided by the organisers. Participants had to show their ingenuity in order to leave a lasting impression in the minds of the judges.

  • The Vocational Skills Competition organisers – including the Labour Affairs Bureau – see the event as a showcase for Macao’s ongoing efforts in training a greater number of skilled workers; promoting provision of vocational training within enterprises; and encouraging employees to enhance their skills and capacity for delivering services.
