Boxing is one of 500 courses offered in this year’s summer programme of culture, recreation and sports, organised jointly by the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau and the Sports Bureau.

Anyone aged 12 to 25 years old can apply to join the elementary boxing classes. The sessions cover: introduction to boxing equipment and rules; techniques for pre-bout bandaging of the fighter’s fists; basic footwork; punching skills; punch combinations; and boxing moves.

Only those aged 17 to 25 years old can apply to join the advanced classes. Besides tougher training relating to body strength, there are more practice drills focusing on attack and defence.

Before entering a boxing ring, a boxer-to-be needs to master the fundamentals, plus footwork skills.
