  • The Cotai Ecological Reserve is near the Lotus Bridge and covers approximately 55 hectares.

  • The reserve’s Zone 1 is classified as a limited-access area. Zone 2 is an open-access area.

  • Zone 1 features two huts for birdwatching, enabling the public to observe the rich flora and fauna at close range.

  • Zone 2 includes three artificial islets, and an observation boardwalk. Mangrove plants are dotted distributed across the mudflats.

  • The reserve hosts a variety of flora and fauna, and its abundant food resources have, to date, attracted nearly 200 bird species to feed and roost there, including the rare black-faced spoonbill.

  • As migratory bird season begins, the reserve welcomes black-faced spoonbills returning to Macao to spend the winter.

  • The number of migratory birds returning to Macao each winter has remained relatively stable in recent years.

  • The Environmental Protection Bureau is committed to improving the environment in the Cotai Ecological Reserve, providing ideal habitats and feeding grounds for migratory birds that spend the winter in Macao.

  • Each year, outside the migratory season, the authorities carry out tidal-flats improvement work in Ecological Zone 1, to enhance living conditions for water birds, bottom-dwelling aquatic organisms, and fish.

  • The authorities organise monthly a series of events at the Cotai Ecological Reserve. Public-viewing days feature guided tours allowing visitors to learn about plants and birds within the ecological zones.
