The Chief Executive, Edmund Ho today (20 Dec) praised that the people of Macao had faced all difficulties courageously in unison, overcame adversities with determination and had looked forward to a brighter future with optimism.
Edmund Ho said in his speech for the third anniversary reception that in the past three years, "Macao SAR has been striving together with our citizens among these people were the numerous civil associations from whom the Government has received great support and collaboration. Moreover, the aspirations of the citizens and the opinions of different associations make us conscious of our duty/; the rapid changing society and the future prospects induce us to explore the opportunities for future developments of Macao." Adding that "The support and encouragement of the citizens account for the results of the Government¡¦s work/; the comprehension and impulse of the society drive us to improve our insufficiencies."
"Macao SAR Government has experienced various challenges." He said "Today, the whole society is making a further step towards a clear direction. Though, we do not fall into arrogance, neither do we underestimate the future challenges, rather we keep on fighting incessantly for our goals."
"In the past three years, the relationship between the Macao SAR and the Mainland has developed into a new scenario. The people of Macao bear a patriotic spirit that has further endorsed the realization of the Basic Law and sustained the model of one country, two systems. That same spirit has also led the people of Macao to dedicate sincerely to the development of Macao, maintaining the society in harmony and stability. On the other hand, the Central People¡¦s Government and the people of the Motherland in line with the spirit of one country, two systems/; have given us immeasurable support. Their help has not only appeared as a relief for short-term problems and needs, but it also looks after the development of Macao in long-term perspectives." Said Edmund Ho.
"Our civil servants should not be contented with the present/;" He also said "instead they should continuously improve themselves so that we could provide a better service to our citizens. Meanwhile, we must treasure the precious achievements of the past and hold on to the present. We shall pursue to a better tomorrow by means of our collective effort and wisdom. We shall combine tradition with innovation, combine our actual capability with our future needs, combine the trend of development of Macao and the Motherland with the development of the world. Furthermore, we shall explore our unique advantages so that we could start a new phase of Macao and gradually realize our ultimate goal of prosperity and make the model of one country, two systems continue to flourish in Macao."
More than 1000 guests attended the reception, namely the Vice President of CPPCC, Ma Man Kei, the Director of the Central Government Liaison Office in Macau, Bai Zhijian, the Commissioner of the Macau SAR Commission of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC, Wan Yongxiang, the Commanding Officer of the Macau PLA Garrison, Liu Lianhua, the President of the Legislative Assembly, Susana Chou, the President of the Court of Final Appeal, Sam Hou Fai, as well as principal officials and community leaders.
