Macau and Zhuhai cooperate in attracting foreign investors

Secretary for Economy and Finance, Tam Pak Yuen, today (20th) stressed that the economic cooperation between Macau and Zhuhai will generate greater productivity and will be beneficial to both sides.

Speaking in the opening ceremony of the "Briefing on the Investment Environment of Macau and Zhuhai 2001", Mr. Tam pointed out that the cooperation between Macau and Zhuhai to attract foreign investment was a new concept, aiming at congregating the privileged conditions and the features of Macau and Zhuhai.

Mr. Tam further that facing the trends of the world-wide and regional globalization of economy, and the accession of China to the World Trade Organization, the reinforcement of the cooperation between Macau and Zhuhai was not only a trend but a necessity and a common objective of the both sides.

Mr. Tam said that focusing on encouraging the revitalization and development of the local economy, the MSAR Government was also determined to maintain Macau as a free market economic system, by rigorously fulfilling regulations of International trade/; protecting the Intellectual property rights/; intensifying bilateral and multilateral economic links/; enhancing the conditions for a free market open for competition.

The "Briefing on Environment of Investment of Macau and Zhuhai 2001" was organized jointly by the Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute and the Zhuhai Branch of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade. More than 300 entrepreneurs from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Zhuhai and Macau have participated in the seminar.
