Monetary and financial statistics – February 2026

According to statistics released today (2 April) by the Monetary Authority of Macao, broad money supply continued to grow in February 2026.  Meanwhile, resident deposits* rose from a month ago whereas loans to residents* posted a decline.

Money supply

Currency in circulation and demand deposits grew 4.4% and 8.6% respectively, M1 thus increased 7.4% from one month earlier.  On the other hand, quasi-monetary liabilities decreased 0.2%.  The sum of these two items, i.e. M2, increased 0.5% to MOP863.6 billion.  The shares of Macao pataca (MOP), Hong Kong dollar (HKD), renminbi (RMB) and United States dollar (USD) in M2 were 32.0%, 44.6%, 6.4% and 15.3% respectively.

Deposits

Resident deposits* rose 0.4% from the preceding month to MOP840.1 billion while non-resident deposits* grew 1.2% to MOP330.2 billion.  Meanwhile, public sector deposits with the banking sector increased 3.8% to MOP246.2 billion.  As a result, total deposits in the banking sector grew 1.1% to MOP1,416.5 billion.  The shares of MOP, HKD, RMB and USD in total deposits were 19.4%, 44.8%, 7.9% and 26.3% respectively.

Loans

Domestic loans to the private sector* fell 0.7% from a month ago to MOP489.1 billion.  On the other hand, external loans* increased 4.2% to MOP557.7 billion.  As a result, total loans of the banking sector rose 1.9% to MOP1,046.8 billion.  The shares of MOP, HKD, RMB and USD in total loans were 21.6%, 40.5%, 16.7% and 17.3% respectively.

Operating ratios

At end-February 2026, the overall loan-to-deposit ratio increased from 73.4% at end-January to 73.9%, whereas the ratio for the resident sector decreased from 45.8% to 45.0%.    The one-month and three-month current assets to liabilities ratios stood at 56.5% and 48.9% respectively.  Concurrently, the non-performing loan ratio decreased from 4.8% at end-January to 4.7%.

* Resident and non-resident deposits, as well as domestic loans to the private sector and external loans, cover both individuals and enterprises.
