The Survey on Manpower Needs and Wages for the first quarter of 2025 covers the Manufacturing sector; the Electricity, Gas & Water Supply sector; Hotels; Restaurants; Child-care and Elderly Care services.

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that number of full-time employees in Hotels (60,482), Elderly Care services (1,493) and the Electricity, Gas & Water Supply sector (1,088) went up by 4,068 (+7.2%), 68 (+4.8%) and 11 (+1.0%) respectively year-on-year at the end of the first quarter of 2025. On the other hand, number of those in Restaurants (23,381) and the Manufacturing sector (7,402) decreased by 624 (-2.6%) and 437 (-5.6%) respectively.

In March 2025, average earnings (excluding irregular remuneration) of full-time employees in the Manufacturing sector (MOP12,690), Elderly Care services (MOP17,050) and the Electricity, Gas & Water Supply sector (MOP31,140) increased by 1.4%, 1.2% and 0.6% respectively year-on-year. By contrast, average earnings of those in Hotels (MOP20,090) and Restaurants (MOP10,540) dropped by 1.9% and 0.7% respectively.

The job vacancy rates of Hotels (1.4%) and Restaurants (4.6%) at the end of the first quarter went down by 1.1 and 1.4 percentage points respectively year-on-year, as the job vacancies in relevant industries were filled and the demand for manpower gradually stabilised. Number of job vacancies totalled 839 in Hotels and 1,124 in Restaurants. Meanwhile, the employee turnover rates of Hotels (3.0%) and Restaurants (4.8%) dropped by 0.3 and 0.6 percentage points respectively year-on-year, implying a slight improvement in employee turnover in relevant industries.

In terms of recruitment prerequisites, 86.6% and 87.7% of the job vacancies in Restaurants and the Manufacturing sector required only senior secondary education or lower, while 84.6% of the vacancies in the Electricity, Gas & Water Supply sector required tertiary education. Meanwhile, 86.1% and 70.6% of the vacancies in Hotels and Restaurants required knowledge of Mandarin as the majority of the visitors to Macao were from mainland China.
