The Consumer Council, Macao Customs, Economic Services, and the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) patrolled together at Tap Seac Chinese New Year Market earlier to distribute promotional leaflets and raise the awareness of vendors in abiding the laws for the order and safety of the market, as well as to safeguard the rights of consumers.

As Chinese New Year and shopping high season are approaching, to safeguard the safety and rights of consumers, the Consumer Council and Macao Customs visited shops in different areas, covering industries such as goldsmiths and jewellery , dried seafood, and drugstores to promote intellectual property rights and how to label price properly. Businesses are reminded to protect the safety and rights of consumers by abiding by the laws and take responsibilities in every aspects in businesses, from procurement to retail sales of products.

Aside from visiting retail shops in different areas, the Consumer Council, Macao Customs, Economic Services, and the Municipal Affairs Bureau visited the Tap Seac New Year market to distribute information to vendors to avoid violation of intellectual property rights and pay attention to product safety.

To safeguard consumer rights, suggestions were given to shops by the departments during the patrol these several days to ensure product quality and that sales practice of the shops are safe and legal. The relevant departments hope to ensure that the market is in good order and that consumer rights are better protected.

The Council urged “Certified Shops” to provide quality service to consumers, explanation should be made to tourists if they are not familiar with local shopping habit to avoid disputes and to maintain the image of Macao as an international shopping city.
