A delegation from the Pan-Pearl River Delta (PPRD) Region is on a visit to Portugal and Germany, in order to establish closer ties with the green industry network based in Europe and in Portuguese-speaking countries.

The two-nation visit – from 11 to 19 March – has been organised by the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).

The visit is an additional step in the ongoing effort to diversify the PPRD Region’s trade and economic cooperation with Portuguese-speaking countries and with European countries, and to explore further opportunities for restructuring, upgrading and diversifying environmental technology across the PPRD Region.

The PPRD Region, also known as the “9+2”, consists of nine provinces: Fujian; Jiangxi; Hunan; Guangdong; Guangxi; Hainan; Sichuan; Guizhou; and Yunnan: plus the Hong Kong SAR; and the Macao SAR.

While in Europe, the delegation is to visit government departments responsible for environmental protection and will have opportunities to exchange views with representatives of green industries to learn more about management of, respectively, the atmosphere, water, soil pollution and waste.

The delegation is expected to forge links with, and create fresh opportunities between, green industries in the PPRD Region and their counterparts in Europe in terms of promoting cooperation in relation to the green economy.

The Macao SAR and the other PPRD Region authorities pay great attention to environmental protection and the development of green business sectors.

The 60-member delegation to Europe is being led by the President of the Administrative Committee of the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute, Mr Cheong Chou Weng, and includes representatives from environmental protection and green industries across the PPRD Region.

PPRD Region representatives taking part in the visit will then be sharing their insights – regarding new environmental technologies – at the 2018 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum and Exhibition (2018MIECF), an event to be held in Macao from 12 to 14 April.
