The Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, has decided to refer to the Public Prosecutions Office a report by the Commission Against Corruption (CCAC) stemming from CCAC’s investigation into the Alto de Coloane construction project.

Mr Chui made the decision after an analysis of relevant laws, and with a view to safeguarding public land rights, as well as the legitimate rights of land owners.

The issues raised in the CCAC report – a document released today – were complicated and serious. The report was referred to the Public Prosecutions Office for further investigation and possible legal action should any irregularity be found.

Mr Chui said he was highly concerned about issues raised in the report regarding demarcation of land in general, and the particular area involved in the Alto de Coloane construction project.

The Government strictly upholds the nation’s Constitution and the Basic Law of the Macao Special Administrative Region, in order to protect public and private land rights in Macao. The competent departments have been working in line with the city’s Land Law to deal with issues relating to the use of land in Macao.

The independent and law-based investigations conducted by the CCAC aligned with the strong determination of the Chief Executive and the Government to uphold the rule of law in Macao. Such determination illustrated the Government’s willingness to face any challenges emerging during the process of the city’s social development.

The Government as always respects and observes the law and takes seriously any instance of irregularity.
