For the general public, legal provisions may be something inaccessible. However, the law is closely related to the citizens' daily life, no matter concerning small things such as littering and crossing the road, or major issues such as marriage and buying property, which are subject to legal provisions and cannot be ignored. Besides protecting the citizens’ rights, the law also provides obligations for them.
In order to popularize the law to enable more people to dominate the legal contents closely related to them, Legal Affairs Bureau published, during the past few years, various leaflets and booklets of law popularization, so that legal information may be conveyed to the public in an easy-to-read language. The leaflets and booklets published this year include: Symbols of Our Country & of The MSAR, Combating Trafficking in Persons, Legal Guide for Visiting Macao, Let’s Learn the Basic Law - General Principles, Let’s Learn the Basic Law - Political Structure, Let’s Learn the Basic Law - Fundamental Rights and Duties of the Residents, Tenancy Law and Tips on Property Transaction. The information is of wide range, covering different aspects.
All these leaflets and booklets are available freely at the Legal Information Stands of Legal Affairs Bureau. To facilitate the consultation of the content of these leaflets and booklets by the citizens, Legal Affairs Bureau has launched recently an on-line service for law popularization publications on its website www.dsaj.gov.mo, through which citizens can see their content which is classified by the subject, namely: Basic Law and conventions, Property purchases, sales and rental, Parental authority and adoption, Criminal Prevention, Road Safety, Services provided by Legal Affairs Bureau and Others.
Taking into account the need of foreigners to know the laws of Macao, in addition to Chinese, this service is also available in Portuguese and English.
The Legal Information Stands are located in: Health Centres, Hospital Centre of C.S.J., lobby and 1st to 3rd floor of Public Administration Building, Finance Services Bureau, Identification Bureau, Macao Post, University of Macau, library of University of Macau, Macao Polytechnic Institute, Centre of Permanent Education, Centre of Educational Activities of Taipa, Macau Basic Law Promotion Association, the Women’s Association of Macau in Tamagnini Barbosa District, CEM, etc.
