The Secretary for Economy and Finance, Mr Francis Tam Pak Yuen, said Macao’s Banco Delta Asia S.A.R.L. (BDA) was running normally and that the Government would continue to guarantee all bank deposits, including those in BDA.
Speaking to reporters today, Mr Tam said the Government was aware of the decision by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority to propose the revocation of Delta Asia Credit Limited's (DAC) authorisation as a deposit-taking company.
DAC was part of the Delta Asia Financial Group and the incident would not affect the operation of BDA, which was running normally. Therefore, the Government had not considered taking over the management of BDA, Mr Tam said.
Speaking on the economy, he said the global financial turmoil had affected Macao and the economy showed signs of slowing down in the recent month.
He noted that the Central Government had all along been paying much attention to Macao’s social and economic development, and that he believed that the Central Government would consider Macao’s situation and continue to support Macao’s development.
