The Statistics and Census Service released the principal results of the 2007 Health Statistics, which included 3 hospitals, 477 private clinics and public health care centres providing primary health care services, as well as 233 establishments providing Chinese medicine and therapy services in Macao.
In 2007, the number of persons engaged in the 3 hospitals totalled 3,039, including 1,042 nurses and 547 doctors. The 3 hospitals together provided 1,014 in-patient hospital beds, with the hospital bed occupancy rate going up slightly by 0.5 percentage point year-on-year to 76.9%. For the whole year of 2007, a total of 12,833 surgical operations were performed and 301,000 emergency treatments were provided.
There were 1,843 persons engaging in primary health care services, including 664 doctors and 407 nurses. Number of medical consultations administered totalled 1,695,000, of which 33.3% were in General practice and 8.1% in Internal medicine.
In 2007, number of health care professionals per 1,000 population was 2.3 for doctors and 2.5 for nurses.
Number of blood donors decreased slightly by 0.4% year-on-year to 9,088 in 2007; the median age of the blood donors was 24.4. Meanwhile, the Blood Donation Centre provided 18,607 units of blood and blood components to the hospitals in 2007.
In 2007, there were 597 persons engaging in Chinese medicine and therapy services, including 160 doctors of Chinese medicine and 163 Chinese herbalists. For the whole year of 2007, about 753,000 consultations in Chinese medicine and therapy services were provided.
