Macao today sent 20 medical staff to Sichuan to help provide medical treatments to victims of the catastrophic earthquake, after getting the Central Government’s approval.

The Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Mr Chui Sai On, saw the team off at the airport this morning. He told the press that Macao had made donations and sent food and other supplies to the affected area earlier.

Soon after the earthquake, the Macao SAR Government contacted the Liaison Office of the Central Government in Macao and expressed its intention to send medical staff to Sichuan to help the victims.

He said that more than 300 medical staff from the Health Bureau and Kiang Wu Hospital voluntarily registered for this medical team.

The medical team will work at the Chengdu Third Peoples Hospital for two weeks.
