A Dutch student in a local tertiary education institution was put under isolation for treatments and further tests for SARS, announced the Health Bureau today (22 April).
The Health Bureau noted in its press release that the patient was found to run a fever of 39.1ºC upon his arrival in Macao on 21 April after a 4-day visit to Jiangmen, Guangzhou and Zhuhai. He was sent to the Conde S. Januario Hospital immediately and was put under isolation for treatment and further diagnoses.
According to the press release, the patient’s fever continued after being hospitalized and X-ray images of his lungs had revealed localized infiltrate and blood tests had suggested possibility of viral infection.
For maximum precautions, the Health Bureau decided to have the patient under isolation care and would continue to monitor his condition closely.
Over 9,000 people have had their temperature taken at the three checkpoints in the 24 hours prior to 17:00 today, respectively 2,767 at the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal, 4,450 at the Border Gate and 1,233 at the Macau International Airport. Doctors in the consultation posts at the checkpoints had answered three inquiries and one person has been sent to hospital for consultation.
The Bureau would maintain all preventive measures although no SARS case was confirmed in Macao up to this point, the press release confirmed.
