  • The Government has been adhering to plans outlined in Macao’s Five-year Development Plan to bolster development of modern industries, such as MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) and the nascent specialised financial services sector. Support for such sectors is part of Macao’s overall effort to achieve adequate economic diversification.

  • “Conventions as the priority” is a policy directive by which the city’s economic and financial authorities seek to propel development of Macao’s MICE industry.

  • Major event brands in the Macao MICE annual calendar include: the International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum; the Macao International Trade & Investment Fair; and the Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition.

  • The Government is dedicated to attracting to Macao a greater number of MICE events.

  • Strategies to ensure the Macao MICE industry thrives include supporting local industry representatives to take part in MICE-related initiatives regionally and further afield.

  • The idea behind advancing specialised financial services in Macao is to make them complementary to the city’s strategic role as a commercial and trade cooperation service platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, functions that come under Macao’s “Platform” policy.

  • The Government is stepping up efforts to promote financial leasing as a business services segment. It wishes for that reason to attract to Macao a greater number of companies with experience in that field.

  • The Government is striving to develop Macao as a renminbi-clearing centre for Portuguese-speaking countries, and thus to promote the business use of the renminbi by those countries.
