The Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park of Cooperation Between Guangdong and Macao (GMTCM Park) – the groundbreaking ceremony of which was held in in April 2011, occupies an area of 500,000 square metres in the High-Tech Zone of Hengqin New Area.

The GMTCM Park is the first project implemented under the Framework Agreement on Cooperation between Guangdong and Macao, and has been jointly developed, built, operated and managed by a joint venture formed by Macao and Hengqin.

The GMTCM's R&D Headquarters Building, GMP Pilot Scale Production Building, R&D and Testing Building, and Enterprise Incubation Zone have been completed and commenced operations.

In accordance with the Policy Address 2019 of the MSAR Government suggesting precisely cultivating nascent industries to lead innovative adequate economic diversification, the GMTCM Park is now promoting Macao’s traditional Chinese medicine industrialisation and internationalisation, as well as adequate economic diversification.

Of the 119 enterprises currently registered to move into the GMTCM Park, 29 are Macao enterprises, 19 of which are nascent companies and 10 have been established with capital invested by traditional Chinese medicine companies in Macao.

Facilitated by Macao’s advantages as a platform, the GMTCM Park helps to promote traditional Chinese medicine products and technology in Portuguese-speaking countries, the European Union, and the countries and regions along the “Belt and Road”.

The GMTCM Park also provides training, internships, overseas volunteer clinic and employment opportunities to Macao’s young people and graduates majoring in traditional Chinese medicine, benefiting 44 participants in 2018.

The GMP Pilot Scale Production Building of the GMTCM Park is capable of producing traditional Chinese medicine in the form of tablets, capsules, granules, pills and liniments, in accordance with China’s and the EU’s GMP accreditation standards for construction and management.

Macao’s small and medium-sized enterprises may conduct product research and development in the GMTCM Park. At present, the park is home to R&D on four new products of three Macao enterprises, and product quality upgrading projects of two Macao enterprises.

The 128,000 square metre Enterprise Incubation Zone provides rooms to assist development for enterprises that move into the park, realising sustainable development from cultivating enterprises to cultivating industries.
