  • Jao Tsung-I Academy was established in August 2015 in Macao. It is aimed to make known to the public Professor Jao Tsung-I’s academic and artistic achievements; to promote Chinese culture and arts; and to stimulate academic exchange related to Sinological studies.

  • Prof. Jao Tsung-I is widely honoured as a “master of Sinology” and a “treasure of the nation”. He made tremendous contributions to the city’s development of cultural affairs. The late professor donated a great number of his own excellent artworks to cultural institutions in Macao. He was in Macao for the opening in 2015 of the Jao Tsung-I Academy, at which time he unveiled a bronze bust capturing his likeness.

  • A set of Prof. Jao’s handprints cast in bronze is on display at the Academy. Via the symbolism of this artefact, the Government hopes to inspire further generations for pursue academic and arts-based activities.

  • The library on the ground floor contains art-related and academic publications by Prof. Jao, as well as research studies on him by other people. All materials can be accessed by the public, within the walls of the Academy.

  • The wooden staircase leads to a further collection of works by Prof. Jao, kept on an upper floor.

  • A room on the first floor is home to a permanent exhibition titled “Paintings and Calligraphies Donated by Jao Tsung-I”.

  • The Academy ensures excellent artworks created by the Professor are made accessible to members of the public.

  • These outdoor spaces are open for visitors to the Academy. The leisure courtyard is ideal for small-scale outdoor activities.

  • The Jao Tsung-I Academy, located at Avenida do Conselheiro Ferreira de Almeida, is open from Tuesday to Sunday inclusive, from 10am to 6pm.
