  • On the first day of full operations for the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao (HKZM) Bridge, a number of people assemble at the Macao boundary checkpoint ready to use the sea-crossing structure. Travel to either Zhuhai or Hong Kong is possible from Macao via the Bridge, which opened to the public on 24 October.

  • Travellers undergo a security check at the Macao boundary crossing area.

  • Customs clearance work between Macao and Zhuhai is carried out on a “Joint Inspection and One-time Release” principle. Travellers are required to queue up only once to complete – in about 20 seconds –exit and entry procedures valid for the two cities. This innovative form of boundary clearance is in order to make the process efficient for travellers using the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.

  • There are three types of channel at the Macao boundary checkpoint – automatic, semi-automatic, or manned ones – enabling travellers to complete the departure and arrival formalities. The choice of channel is related to the type of the identification documents being used by the person.

  • There are two types of bus transportation taking the public between Macao and Hong Kong via the Bridge. One type is known as a checkpoint shuttle. Such licensed services move passengers only between the Macao boundary checkpoint and the Hong Kong checkpoint, and vice versa. Travellers can purchase Hong Kong-bound checkpoint bus tickets from counters at the Macao boundary checkpoint.

  • Alternatively, travellers can purchase tickets for such checkpoint bus services at a ticket vending machine. Staff members at the Macao boundary checkpoint are pleased to offer assistance should it be required.

  • After passing through immigration clearance, travellers take a checkpoint shuttle bound for the Hong Kong control point.

  • Departure of checkpoint shuttle bound for the Hong Kong control point.

  • It takes an average of 10 to 15 seconds for each vehicle to complete clearance procedures at the Macao boundary checkpoint.

  • A constant flow of inbound and outbound buses and authorised private vehicles can be seen on the first day of full service at the Macao boundary checkpoint serving the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.
