  • The Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau and the Public Security Police Force co-organise workshops offering tips from professionals on how dog owners can train their pets to be obedient.

  • Workshops at the Macao Municipal Kennel start by explaining key provisions of the Animal Protection Law and dog owners’ duties.

  • Each workshop has a two-hour theory session and a four-hour practice session.

  • Handlers from the police dog unit share tips on obedience training.

  • Dog owners wishing to bring their pets to the workshops must have a valid licence for the animal and show evidence it is vaccinated against rabies and other infectious diseases common to canines.

  • Each workshop covers basic obedience skills, such as getting the animal to walk while on a leash, ordering it to sit down and commanding it to lie down.

  • Teaching a dog to present its paw to a person takes patience and practice.

  • The authorities hope – via the promotion of dog training skills in the workshops – to minimise in Macao issues associated with animal neglect or pet indiscipline.
