To continue to promote the professional and international development of the MICE industry, the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) has held an online training on MICE industry on 26 October, with the theme “Market Brief – Asia Pacific”. International industry experts have been invited the event to share and exchange experiences with participants, allowing attendees to grasp new trends of the MICE market across time zones and regions. The event attracted 30 representatives of the MICE industry from the Mainland and Macao, as well as teachers and students from local universities and citizens to participate online.

Deepening insights and expanding international customer base

To help the local industry know more about the development of the international MICE market, this online training invited Senior Partner of GainingEdge from Australia and IPIM’s MICE expert Mike Williams, and Business Development Manager for Southeast Asia of GainingEdge Esther Ng from Singapore, , to talk about the current situation of the MICE market in Southeast Asian countries, Australia and New Zealand, as well as the challenges and opportunities in Asia-Pacific’s MICE markets.

Getting prepared for more MICE business guests

The keynote speakers predict that the 4th quarter of each year is the high season for MICE events in the Asia-Pacific region. According to their analysis, the travel time of business guests currently is longer in general than before the pandemic. Macao provides sufficient hardware and software facilities for MICE events, as well as various Chinese and Western world cultural heritage attractions, giving MICE business guests more space for exploration. It is recommended that Macao make full use of its existing resources to further enhance its ability to host MICE business guests in the future.

Continuing to promote Macao as an ideal MICE destination

In April, September and October of this year, IPIM held a total of three online training sessions for the MICE industry, attracting more than 120 participants. The first two online sessions attracted nearly 1,400 views; the themes of events include: Market Brief – Mainland China, MICE event data analytics—new event models and Market Brief – Asia Pacific, keeping abreast of the latest trends in the MICE industry.

Some students majoring in MICE industry said that the training sessions helped them understand the development trends of the MICE sector and the international market position of Macao’s MICE sector. They also express their hope to engage in the MICE industry after graduation. In the future, IPIM will continue to hold various types of online workshops, inviting MICE consultants and industry experts to share practical knowledge of MICE industry or introduce international MICE trends. It aims to continue to provide support to the MICE industry, and at the same time, it will increase knowledge of the industry, promoting the professional development of the industry. IPIM will also encourage the local industry to promote Macao as an ideal MICE destination, so as to attract more major MICE events to be held in Macao.
