Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and Madame Tussauds Hong Kong join hands for the first time to exhibit eight racer wax figures at the Macao Grand Prix Museum (the “Museum”) from 27 March. All of these waxworks are modelled after internationally-famous racing drivers. With the Macau Grand Prix reaching its 70th anniversary this year, the wax figures will become a fascination to experience for travelers and motorsport fans from different parts of the world to Macao as the city strives to expand the spectrum of source markets.

Racers’ wax figures will be a new attraction for worldwide fans and visitors

The eight wax statues portray John Macdonald, Ron Haslam, Ayrton Senna da Silva, Sebastian Vettel, Michael Rutter, Lewis Carl David Hamilton, Robert “Rob” Huff and Edoardo Mortara. All of the racers enjoy international reputation and joined the Macau Grand Prix before. Most of them also won many trophies on the Guia Circuit.

Andy Chang Wing Chung: I am a fan of the depicted racers

Winning the Formula 4 Macau Grand Prix last year, local racer Andy Chang Wing Chung shared about his passion for watching car races since childhood. In 2013, he joined his first Formula race on the Guia Circuit, which became his greatest joy of life. His idols are Ayrton Senna da Silva, Sebastian Vettel, Lewis Carl David Hamilton and Edoardo Mortara. To him, the Guia Circuit remains one of the most challenging circuits. Yet he enjoyed every race there so much. He added that Formula 3 simulators recreate close-to-life virtual experience along the Guia Circuit in detail. It offers a great means of training before the races. Now, people can behold the wax figures and race cars of these venerable racers and experience the thrill of motor racing along the Guia Circuit with the motorbike and Formula 3 simulators at the Macao Grand Prix Museum.

Arranged annual visits for worldwide racers to Macao Grand Prix Museum as the city’s landmark

Vice President of Automobile General Association Macao-China, Roberto Carlos Osorio, stated that the Macau Grand Prix reaches the 70th edition this year. It has been a prestigious motorsport event of Macao. The Macao Grand Prix Museum offers a window for all into the history and transformation of the Macau Grand Prix. From many racers, he learned that it has been their goal to join the Macau Grand Prix and experience the thrilling challenge of racing on the Guia Circuit, which is uniquely different from what they experienced on other circuits. He added that during the Macau Grand Prix every year, he would recommend the Macao Grand Prix Museum to foreign racers. The Museum often captured their interest. Therefore, he would arrange for their museum visits after the races. He expressed that even during other times of the year, the Museum enables people to experience the vibes of the Macau Grand Prix, one of Macao’s iconic events.

Dedicated promotions for the wax figures

The wax figures of these eight prominent racers will become one of the new highlights of the destination and a boon for diverse destination marketing. MGTO has incorporated them into the promotional campaign to widen their publicity. The Office strategically harnesses the Macau Grand Prix’s unique glamour in destination marketing as part of its endeavors to integrate “tourism + sports” and other sectors, in parallel with the SAR Government’s development strategy of “1+4” adequate diversification.

With Macao’s lifting of travel restrictions, MGTO will carry on its online-offline marketing campaign targeting different markets to develop and diversify source markets with unreserved efforts.
