The Government Headquarters Open Day sessions are this year being held on the weekend of 17 and 18 October, from 9am to 6pm, on both days. The sessions feature displays including floral attractions, a photography exhibition, and a series of performances.

This year the display theme is “Happiness is All Around”. To one side of the Protocol Palace is a lawn. On arrival, visitors can see on the lawn a heart-shaped, topiary archway with a curtain of flowing water, highlighting the “Happiness” theme. In the centre of the display is a patio adorned with plant sculptures and decorations shaped like musical notations. Visitors are invited to take photographs while walking through the archway setting. There are also egg-shaped, miniature glass-fountain displays on the far side of the lawn, modelled on a scenic spot in Taipa. The miniature versions and the floral display to be found at the Protocol Palace work in harmony, offering a different perspective on the full-scale scenic spot.

A floral pergola, also featuring greenery of various shades, complements a light display symbolising the fireworks that sometimes illuminate Macao’s night sky. Visitors also have the opportunity to take selfies at a European-style park bench, or by a Portuguese cobblestone footpath, and then post the pictures on social media. In addition, there is a representation of a silhouette of Macao’s skyline – picked out in LED lights – against a wall covered in greenery. Other LED lights are in pendant form, simulating the appearance of the fireworks. The palette of lights and colours creates a delightful scene in its own right.

The Open Day sessions also offer guided tours of the upper floor of the Government Headquarters. There is additionally a display in the Multi-purpose Room of the main building – the Protocol Palace – titled “Macao's Golden Era”.

In conjunction with the Open Day sessions is a series of performances – by respectively, the Macao Police Band, the Macao Conservatory School of Dance, and the Macao Conservatory School of Music – for members of the public to enjoy while visiting the Government Headquarters buildings.

The Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau will set up a temporary postal counter nearby, at Nam Van Lake, to sell Macao philatelic products and provide a commemorative postmark service for such products.

The public can enter the Government Headquarters by the entrance on Travessa do Paiva. It is located on the right-hand side of the Protocol Palace as visitors face the front of the main building. Once in the grounds, visitors should follow a designated route, which includes stops at the Multi-purpose Room and the Lotus Room on the ground floor of the Protocol Palace. Via the marble staircase to the first floor, visitors can explore the Grand Hall, the Green Hall, the Yellow Hall and the Blue Hall.

For the convenience of visitors, special traffic-management arrangements will be in force in part of Travessa do Paiva during the Open Day sessions. Drivers are urged to pay attention to the temporary traffic signs and follow police advice.

Visitors are advised to take care when navigating steps on their visit to the Government Headquarters.

Members of the public are reminded that upon arrival at the Government Headquarters, they will be required to present a valid ‘green’ Macao Health Code certification and undergo a body-temperature check. Visitors are also respectively required to wear a protective face mask. Selfie sticks, umbrellas, drinks, food and pets are not permitted on the premises.
