CE to visit Beijing for Belt and Road forum

The Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, will visit Beijing from 24 to 29 April to attend the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, and the Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition.

The second edition of the forum takes as its theme "Belt and Road Cooperation, Shaping a Brighter Shared Future", with a focus on promotion of high-quality development in countries and places along the “Belt and Road”. Activities at the forum will include an opening ceremony, leaders’ round-table summits, high-level meetings, 12 parallel sessions, and conference sessions for enterprises.

President Xi Jinping is expected to deliver a keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the Forum on Friday (26 April). The Chief Executive will attend the opening ceremony as well as a high-level meeting.

The Macao delegation has approximately 40 members, including Government officials and representatives from the industrial and commercial sectors. Members of the Macao delegation members will attend several parallel sessions, at which Mr Chui, and the Secretary for Economy and Finance, Mr Leong Vai Tac, will deliver speeches.

Other officials accompanying Mr Chui to Beijing will include: the Secretary for Administration and Justice, Ms Chan Hoi Fan; the Commissioner Against Corruption, Mr Cheong Weng Chon; the Chief-of-Office of the Chief Executive’s Office, Ms O Lam; the Director of the Government Information Bureau, Mr Chan Chi Ping; and the Director of the Protocol, Public Relations and External Affairs Office, Ms Lei Ut Mui.

The delegation will also include members of the Executive Council, namely Mr Liu Chak Wan, Mr Ma Iao Lai, Mr Cheang Chi Keong, Mr Wong Yue Kai, Mr Lam Kam Seng, Mr Chan Chak Mo; and the First Secretary of the Legislative Assembly, Mr Kou Hoi In.

While in the capital, the Chief Executive and some delegation members will attend the opening of the Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition, to be held on 28 April. Macao will have a presentation area at the exhibition.

During Mr Chui’s absence, the Secretary for Security, Mr Wong Sio Chak, and the Secretary for Economy and Finance, Mr Leong Vai Tac, will in turn take the role of Acting Chief Executive.
