Ho Hau Wah visits Myanmar to boost bilateral cooperation

A Government delegation visited recently the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, in order to strengthen bilateral cooperation in business, trade, tourism and cultural affairs.

The delegation was in Myanmar from 28 March to 1 April. It was led by Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and former chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), Mr Ho Hau Wah.

The Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Mr Tam Chon Weng, also joined the delegation. The group also comprised representatives from, respectively: the Macao Government Tourism Office; the Institute for Tourism Studies; and the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute. The delegation additionally had approximately 40 entrepreneurs from the local tourism, business and trade sectors respectively.

Upon arrival at Nay Pyi Taw, capital of Myanmar, the Government delegation held a meeting with Myanmar’s State Counsellor, Minister of the President's Office and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms Aung San Suu Kyi. The two sides discussed how to advance ties in education, tourism, business and trade matters as well as investment.

The delegation also paid courtesy calls respectively on: Vice President Mr Myint Swe; Minister of Hotels and Tourism Mr Ohn Maung; Minister of Commerce Mr Than Myint; and Deputy Minister of Planning and Finance Mr Set Aung. During the meetings, the representatives of the two sides shared views on a number of topics, such as trade, investment and cultural exchanges.

While in Nay Pyi Taw, Mr Ho, Mr Ohn Maung and Mr Tam witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Macao’s Institute for Tourism Studies and the Myanmar Ministry of Hotels and Tourism’s Training and Education Department.

The delegation later visited Yangon to attend a reception promoting aspects of trade and tourism particular to Macao and Myanmar respectively.
