Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 116 hotels & guesthouses offered accommodation services to the public in October 2021, a decrease of 3 year-on-year. Meanwhile, number of available guest rooms increased by 0.9% to 36,000. Data on hotels & guesthouses designated for medical observation and self-health monitoring were excluded in the compilation of the results. In parallel with a month-on-month decline of 63.9% in the number of overnight visitors resulting from the tightened cross-boundary measures between Zhuhai and Macao in early to mid-October, the average occupancy rate of guest rooms dropped by 4.9 percentage points from September to 44.6% in October; yet, it represented a year-on-year growth of 4.8 percentage points.

The number of guests checked into hotels & guesthouses in October rose by 1.0% year-on-year to 444,000, with Mainland guests (340,000) decreasing by 5.6% while local guests (78,000) rising by 35.6%. Meanwhile, the average length of stay of guests increased by 0.2 night year-on-year to 1.9 nights.

From January to October this year, the average occupancy rate of guest rooms was 49.9%, up by 25.3 percentage points year-on-year. The number of guests of hotels & guesthouses surged by 94.3% year-on-year to 5,480,000, and their average length of stay extended by 0.1 night to 1.8 nights.

There were about 1,000 visitors joining local tours in October. Nearly 4,000 outbound residents used services of travel agencies, and 91.7% of them visited mainland China. From January to October 2021, number of visitors joining local tours leapt by 145.1% year-on-year to 35,000, and outbound residents using services of travel agencies increased by 30.6% to 133,000.
