A ceremony for deepening the strategic partnership between China Media Group (CMG) and the government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) was held today (18 July). The event was co-organised by CMG and the Macao SAR government, and was hosted by TDM, CMG’s Asia-Pacific headquarters, and the University of Macau (UM). One of the agendas of the ceremony was the signing of a strategic partnership framework agreement between UM and CMG’s Asia-Pacific headquarters. Macao SAR Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng delivered a speech at the ceremony, in which he said that the signing of a strategic partnership agreement between CMG’s Asia-Pacific headquarters and UM would surely provide a bigger platform for higher education institutions in Macao to enhance their academic programmes in communication and to train more professionals in the field.

Officiating guests at the ceremony included Ho Iat Seng, chief executive of the Macao SAR; Shen Haixiong, deputy director of the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and president and editor-in-chief of CMG; Fu Ziying, director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR; Liu Xianfa, commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC in the Macao SAR; Liu Liangcai, commander of the People's Liberation Army Macao Garrison; Ao Ieong  U, secretary for social affairs and culture of the Macao SAR; Wang Xiaozhen, member of the Editorial Meeting and director of the Chief Editor’s Office at CMG; and Ma Iao Hang, chairman of the Board of Directors of TDM.
 

During the ceremony, UM Rector Yonghua Song and CMG Asia-Pacific headquarters’ President Li Yi signed a strategic partnership framework agreement on behalf of their respective institutions. According to the agreement, both parties will strengthen exchange and collaboration by combining each other’s unique advantages, namely CMG Asia-Pacific headquarters’ advantage in news reporting, video and audio resources, and the possession of multiple communication channels, and UM’s advantage in talent development, communication research, and the possession of an outstanding international faculty team, in order to achieve a win-win outcome. Before the ceremony, Li visited the UM campus and had an in-depth discussion with Rector Song on how to implement the partnership agreement.

Headquartered in Hong Kong, the CMG Asia-Pacific headquarters is the group’s management arm in the Asia-Pacific region. It is a consolidation of the former China Central Television (CCTV), China Radio International (CRI), and the overseas offices of the Central People's Broadcasting Station (CPBS) in the Asia-Pacific region. Based in Hong Kong and Macao, the CMG Asia-Pacific headquarters has 19 stations in the Asia-Pacific region and a programme production base in Shenzhen, making it the only overseas station to have a presence in China.
