The “Macao Week in Shanghai” was grandly unveiled today (3 June). Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region, Ho Iat Seng, officiated the opening ceremony. The Macao Week in Shanghai presents a mega roadshow along Yuanmingyuan Road Pedestrian Street at Waitanyuan, Huangpu District in Shanghai from 3 – 7 June, to promote Macao as a healthy, safe and quality destination radiant with diverse dimensions of “tourism +” including trade and commerce as well as other elements, towards the aim to encourage Mainland residents to travel to Macao.

The officiating guests at the ceremony include: Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region, Ho Iat Seng; Mayor of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, Gong Zheng; Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao Special Administrative Region, Yao Jian; Vice Mayor of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, Chen Tong; Secretary for Economy and Finance of the Macao SAR Government, Lei Wai Nong; Secretary General of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, Ma Chunlei; Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, Ao Ieong U; Deputy Director-General and Senior Inspector of the Department of Exchange and Cooperation of Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, Liu Wenda; Director of Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes; Director of Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism, Fang Shizhong; President of the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), Lau Wai Meng, and Secretary of Administrative Committee of Huangpu District of Shanghai Municipality, Gao Yun.

Secretary for Economy and Finance of the Macao SAR Government, Lei Wai Nong, remarked that as one of the core cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Macao is oriented towards becoming “one centre, one platform and one base” and will capitalize on the opportunities to actively align its development with the Country’s 14th Five-Year Plan and integrate further with the national development. The Macao Week in Shanghai brings Macao’s “tourism +” vitality to Shanghai and showcases the destination’s diverse offer of travel experiences through the mega roadshow and gastronomic promotion. He encouraged residents of Shanghai and East China to visit Macao. He also expressed hope that Shanghai and Macao can consolidate and extend their cooperation in different areas and march onto a wider landscape of cooperation possibilities.

Vice Mayor of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, Chen Tong, remarked that Shanghai and Macao have maintained close collaborative relationship for a long time. Marching upon a new journey into the new era, Shanghai and Macao embrace wider and brighter prospects for future cooperation. As Macao is striving to become a world centre of tourism and leisure, Shanghai hopes to join hands with Macao in leveraging the opportunities brought by the Yangtze River Delta’s integrated development and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area’s development among other major national strategic initiatives, to strengthen cooperation in cultural tourism, share their strengths for mutual success and concerted development, in pursuit of a better future for the people in both cities.

Colorful roadshow manifests Macao’s “tourism +” glamour

The Macao Week in Shanghai presents a mega roadshow along Yuanmingyuan Road Pedestrian Street at Waitanyuan, Huangpu District in Shanghai from 3 – 7 June, to showcase Macao’s tourism, trade and commerce, culture and creativity, sports, entertainment and more colorful “tourism +” dimensions through an array of booths themed as follows: overview about Macao and tourism events; Macao’s World Heritage, Intangible Cultural Heritage, Macao Good Shop; MAK MAK Shop; Macao’s sport events; trade, commerce and economy of Macao; as well as a showcase of Macao’s tourism industry presented by pertinent integrated tourism enterprises and airline company. In addition, a tourist information counter is set up to offer Macao travel tips on site.

Wonderful performances radiate Macao’s vitality

During the roadshow, wonderful performances will dazzle the main stage on schedule, including Dragon Dance, Lion Dance, Portuguese Folk Dance and Wing Chun Martial Arts from the Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Macao. Macao’s singers will enliven the roadshow with original songs from Macao while Macao Tourism Mascot “MAK MAK” will perform vivacious street dance with other dancers. In addition, Macao’s music band Tuna Macanese will perform Macanese music at the zone of trade, commerce and economy of Macao.

To promote the Macao Week in Shanghai and spotlight Macao as a healthy destination welcoming visitors, mapping shows are projected upon the façade of Union Church on schedule under the theme of MAK MAK and Macao’s East-and-West cultural symphony during the roadshow.

Abundant special travel offers

The event presents over RMB-110-million special travel offers on air tickets, hotel accommodation, dining and other tourism products for sale at the roadshow and relevant platforms.

The “Macao Week in Shanghai” roadshow also features a check-in activity on site. The public can scan and follow MGTO’s WeChat ID for gift redemption at the tourist information counter.

Macao tourism and MICE presentation seminar

Riding on the Macao Week in Shanghai, MGTO and IPIM will hold a Macao tourism and MICE presentation seminar on 4 June to present the strengths of both cities’ tourism and MICE industries and facilitate networking among industry delegates from both sides, to foster Macao’s “tourism + MICE” development continuously.

Taste of Macao Food Promotion

Jointly presented by MGTO, Bellagio by MGM Shanghai and MGM Macau, the “Macao Week in Shanghai – Taste of Macao Food Promotion” will present signature dishes from Macao at Café Bellagio of the hotel Bellagio by MGM Shanghai from 4 – 17 June. The menu is meticulously designed by Head Chefs Tiago Reis and Lou Kam Meng from MGM Macau. The former is a Portuguese while the latter is a local born and raised in Macao. Chef Lou will also join travel KOLs for culinary presentation via interactive live broadcast in Shanghai on 4 June to introduce Macanese and Portuguese dishes.

An extensive promotional campaign is rolled out for the Macao Week in Shanghai through various online and offline channels in the Mainland, including different travel KOLs who spotlight the event on their platforms. The event is also covered by media from Shanghai, Macao and across the Mainland. During the Macao Week in Shanghai, the units involved rigorously follows the COVID-19 prevention guidelines issued by Shanghai’s public health authorities with appropriate arrangements for the activities to support pandemic prevention while all participants must adhere to the arrangements against COVID-19.
