After Typhoon Manghkut leaves, the Consumer Council and Economic Bureau (DSE) sent out staff to patrol over 630 shops on 17 september, including supermarkets, convenience stores, drugstores and other retail outlets. During patrol, shops kept on restocking food items, bottled water, household sanitation items, etc., the supply and prices of all items remain stable.

The Council and DSE called on all shops again to do business with good practices and maintain the supply and prices of daily necessities. Due to flooding at some supermarkets, the Council suggests other opening shops to consider increasing the supply of products to meet consumers’ needs.

For food outlets, no outlets are found to be charging differently from the menu prices, supply at bakery are also normal.

To maintain the order of supply of daily necessities after typhoon and to alleviate the impact on residents’ lives, the Council and DSE will continue to patrol these coming few days.

The Council has received 4 consumer complaints regarding price gouging during 13 to 17 September, follow-up has been made for all cases.
