Opened in 1999, the Macao Museum of Art is currently the largest exhibition space of arts in Macao. The 5-storey building displays a variety of exhibitions. Besides from offering permanent exhibitions to show its long-term collections, the Macao Museum of Art holds different types of exchange exhibitions with museums and cultural organisations from Mainland China as well as other countries and regions on a regular basis. The building now housing the Museum of Taipa and Coloane History was formerly known as the Municipal Council of the Islands. After a renovation project in 2006, the structure was revitalised into a museum that mainly presents archaeological artefacts and relics excavated in Coloane, the history of the Municipal Council of the Islands and details about its architectural features in addition to an overview of the agricultural and handicraft sectors in Coloane and Taipa in the past. The Macao Museum and Museum of Taipa and Coloane History open from 10am to 6pm (no admission after 5:30pm; closed on Mondays). The Macao Museum of Art opens from 10am to 7pm (no admission after 6:30pm; closed on Mondays).
